The Volvo XC90 2022 is now in its second generation, having been on the market since2015, but we expect some significant modifications for its forthcoming third generation EV reincarnation, which is expected to appear soon.
Embla's Name
Volvo CEO Hkan Samuelsson told MotorTrend recently that the company's new flagship vehicle "will have a name, more like a child," and that the company intends to invoke its Swedish and Norse legendary roots.
Volvo has submitted trademark application for the reported new "Embla" name.
Embla is Askr's companion in regional mythology, and their story is similar to that of Adam and Eve in the Bible.
New Electric Vehicle Architecture
The next Volvo Embla will be based on the Concept Recharge, which debuted in 2021 and translates the brand's long, sleek wagon-body lines into a larger, full-size SUV package, akin to the current XC90 SUV.
A lidar sensor for the vehicle's advanced safety and driver-assistance systems is housed in the hump above the windscreen, along with a full 360-degree sensor suite sprinkled over the external surface.
Introducing the New Flagship
We've previously rendered what we anticipate the new Embla will look like from the outside.
The Volvo Recharge concept will be produced, with the trademark Thor's Hammer headlight design over a smooth front and tall, thin vertical taillights framing the back tailgate in the style of traditional Volvo wagons.
